August 23rd- Hardtail Season Starting off Strong!

Spanish mackerel! Yes, you heard me, there are spanish mackerel in the sound! Oh, and bonito, and chub mackerel. What a late summer bite! From Watch Hill to Fisher's Island to Long Sand Shoal, the sound has filled in pretty good with the hardtails we all hope to catch. Bonito are thicker to the east and anglers are doing work with double digit days being reported more often than not. Stuck on shore? No problem. Head to one of the South County breach ways for a shot from shore. While the bonito being caught on the West Wall, you can have as much success without going all the way to PJ. Closer to home, Joe Diorio got his sports on the funny fish recently and [...]

August 16th- Don’t Call me Chubby!

TURN VOLUME UP!!Chub mackerel are Voracious Eaters! To be a bait fish or a bluefish. I'm not sure whats worse right now! The blues are crushing bait of all sizes from our feet on the beach to the reefs 3 miles out. Lucky for us, they are happy to eat metals and poppers so our customers are having a blast with fish from 1 pound to 10 pounds depending on the school that pops up. Vertical jigging has been super effective on larger fish as the tried and true silver diamond jig with a tube tail has been flying off the shelves. Striped bass are mixed into the surface onslaught and popping plugs are doing work on these 24"-30" fish. We recently restocked on the [...]

What a fluke season we are having here lately! Our customers have been catching consistent fish from 5-9 pounds with the scales topping out near 11 pounds! The lions share of the action is coming in deep water BUT, close. Our local shoals are loaded with bait and it is no doubt the reason why our flat fish are staying fat, happy, and most importantly LOCAL! We are completely loaded up on M3 spoons, Gulp! including all the new colors, and are expecting a refresh of S&S Lures John Skinner Series fluke jigs. Mike Russo with a MAT!All the Best M3 ColorsNew Gulp! We have them all Blue fish abound right now as a school of monster choppers has worked its way into the sound. [...]

July 14- Striped Bass Action at its Peak!

It may be mid July, but the strip-ed bass fishing has hit its stride on our part of the sound. Bunker are now EVERYWHERE and if you are able to snag or net some live fish you can bet on finding bass at our many reefs. No luck finding bunker, no problem! Mojo's are fishing very well too! Keeper fluke are now the bane of most anglers fishing existence as 19" have sounded to deeper water. You can pick away at shorts with the occasional keeper in the shallows, but bigger fish are tougher to find. We recommend going DEEP and using big baits. We just expanded the M3 Spoon selection with increased sizes and colors. They are great at weeding our smaller fish. Offshore, [...]

July 5th- Black, Striped, and Blue Fish!

Michela and Chris Jensen of Team Amped Up! Happy 4th of July Weekend! Summer has officially started and apparently the fish got the memo too! Our inshore fishery has not been better with the amount of species we can catch in our areas! Bluefish are finally being caught with some regularity and snappers have also showed up on the reefs near the CT river. Time to load up on snapper poppers and tins! 3 Different Varieties to Choose From! Black seabass action remains great. You may have to go deeper and move around a bit, but with NY waters open there is plenty of fishy water to explore. Right now 90-100 feet should be your target areas. Hogy Epoxy Jigs drive Seabass Crazy! While short [...]

June 26th- NY Waters Open for Seabass

The dust has settled from Fluke Fest, and in its wake we have some awesome black seabass fishing to report. Since Monday the shop has been stirring with reports of excellent catches across the sound. The line heard most has been " As long as your in 80' of water...". Small gulp tails and the smallest 1/3 oz Savage Swim Squid are really cleaning up right now. For the purest, we just loaded back up with LOCAL SQUID! The BSB are quick to inhale a fresh strip as well! Striped bass fishing seems to be in a holding pattern. Steady as she goes until we get some real schools of bunker in our local waters. Fish are being found, however, with eels and chunk bait [...]

June 14th- Big Bass and Black Bass

This week shaped up to be quite fishy! From inshore reefs to the edge, there was a lot of catching going on! Local striped bass anglers are still chipping away at good fish on our local reefs, specifically fishing with eels. These luck folks got into this nice 35 pound bass doing just that on Monday morning. The seabass bite is still molten hot, but some of the fish have left the "shallows" as of lately. While last week had the fish in 40'-60', I would suggest trying 60'-80' now. Our local sharps are having incredible luck with the Savage Squish Jig, specifically the lighter models to 100 grams. One of our customers found a deep water stranger hanging around the grounds this week in [...]

June 7th- The Fishing Just Keeps Getting Better!

The seasonal weather has brought steady fishing conditions to the sound. While we are still lacking bunk out our way, the fish dont seem to mind! Mojo's, Docs, and eels are culling out some big bass right now. This monster was caught just this morning locally by Captain Mike Pirri on the Flying Connie out of Clinton. Give mojo fishing a try this season if you have not yet. We can set you up with everything you need to catch fish like this! BIG BASS Locally Grown! Our inshore seabass fishing has just been spectacular. 40-60' of water are holding some real bruisers. Take a look at this 6 pound fish that fell to a Fin-Strike rig tipped with our LOCAL SQUID just this week! [...]
